Antigone

Last night Douglas and I went to see Antigone by Jean Anouilh at FAU. We had seen the oroginal by Sophocles years ago in Ft. Lauderdale, and I remember liking it. Douglas and I have been disagreeing quite a bit lately about theatre, and last night was no exception. This adaptation was updated to France in 1944 when it was occupied by Germany. The production seemed to be of high quality, but I got very little out of it. It is supposed to portray both civil disobedience and tyrannical rule, but I was unable to get past the action as presented. Modern time does not fit with giving your life to try to bury your brother's body, so I had trouble thinking the bigger thoughts.
